Farnham Town Football Club is seeking to appoint a part-time Safety Officer to lead all aspects of safety, security and spectator management at The Memorial Ground.
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the country’s fastest-growing football clubs and play a key role in ensuring the safety of supporters, players, officials, staff, volunteers and visitors on both matchdays and non-matchdays.
As the Club continues its progression through the National League System, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading a modern, professional safety management function, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, the Club’s General Safety Certificate, and the requirements of the National League, The Football Association and the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA).
Working closely with the Club’s senior leadership team, emergency services, the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) and local authority partners, you will help create a safe, secure and welcoming environment while embedding a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
• Lead all aspects of safety and security across the football club on both matchdays and non-matchdays.
• Act as the Club’s designated Safety Officer and ensure compliance with the General Safety Certificate and all relevant legislation.
• Develop, implement and maintain the Club’s Stadium Safety Management Plan, Health & Safety Policy, Matchday Operations Manual and all emergency and contingency plans.
• Help plan and manage all matchday safety operations, including steward deployment, spectator management and incident response.
• Carry out regular health and safety inspections, audits and risk assessments across all Club operations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, producing reports and implementing corrective actions where required.
• Lead post-match debriefs and drive continuous improvement in the Club’s safety management systems.
• Liaise with Surrey Police, Surrey Fire & Rescue Service, South East Coast Ambulance Service, Waverley Borough Council, the Safety Advisory Group (SAG), the National League, The Football Association and other key stakeholders.
• Monitor compliance with all relevant football regulations and best practice guidance, including the SGSA Green Guide.
• Maintain accurate safety records, documentation and statutory reporting requirements.
• Provide professional advice to the Club’s Board and senior management on all matters relating to spectator safety, security and health & safety.
• Support planning for stadium improvements, increased attendances and future ground development projects.
• Foster a positive safety culture throughout the Club, ensuring health and safety is embedded across every department.
About You
We’re looking for someone who combines operational experience with a practical, collaborative approach to safety management.
You’ll have:
• Experience in safety management within football, sport, events or a comparable operational environment.
• A thorough understanding of sports ground safety, risk management and health and safety legislation.
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
• The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Experience of writing and maintaining safety documentation and operational procedures.
• The ability to build strong relationships with staff, volunteers, contractors and external stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications
• Level 4 Spectator Safety Qualification (or equivalent).
• NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH Managing Safely, IOSH Graduate or Chartered Membership, or an equivalent recognised health and safety qualification.
• Experience working within football or another spectator sports environment.
• Experience of working with local authorities, Safety Advisory Groups and emergency services.
